A Fun Christmas with Fluffy Kitten Friends: Sharing Our Decorations
Every year, the anticipation of Christmas brings forth new traditions and unique decorations. This year was no different in my home, where my two one-year-old kittens, recently reaching their milestone birthday of one, took center stage in our holiday decor. Embracing the joy and innocence of a kitten's playful spirit, our holiday tree was designed with the little ones in mind.
My Kitten-Led Christmas Tree Design
Planning a Christmas tree within the confines of a home where a pair of energetic kittens rule the roost presented its own set of challenges. Traditionally, creating a fortress for the tree involves hours of focus on decorating, but as a mother of a feline duo, I knew I couldn’t risk being at the mercy of their boundless energy when it came to the tree design. Therefore, I embraced a minimalist approach, ensuring that the tree would be just as much a part of their playtime as their toys.
Instead of a conventional floor-standing evergreen, I opted for a tabletop tree at Menards. Before settling on the final choice, the little tree was only 30 inches tall and came pre-lit. After placing it on the coffee table, I secured it in position with a simple duct tape to prevent any accidents. This arrangement offered a safe space for the kittens to play around it without the risk of any ornaments or decorations falling on their heads.
The Christmas Inspiration
The inspiration for my kitten-centered Christmas tree stemmed from a desire to create a cozy, safe environment for my feline companions. The space we allocate for our holidays is an extension of our home, and with the addition of the kittens, it needed to feel welcoming and enjoyable for everyone. By limiting the ornaments and decorations to a simple pre-lit tree, I managed to strike a balance between festivity and kitten friendliness.
As for the ornaments, I decided to keep the Radko and Waterford pieces on the shelf for another year. The decision to avoid incorporating them into the display isn't due to any sentimental or aesthetic reasons; rather, it's a testament to the fact that the safe and uncluttered approach better suits the needs of my playful kittens.
Life Lessons from the Kitten Christmas Tree
Reflecting on this Christmas experience, there are valuable lessons to be learned. Celebrating with our pets in mind means being flexible and adaptable in our holiday traditions. It's about finding a middle ground where everyone can enjoy the festivities without compromising on safety or fun.
Planning ahead is also crucial. By choosing a tabletop tree and securing it with duct tape, I managed to sidestep the potential chaos that could have resulted from a larger, floor-standing tree. This experience served as a reminder that sometimes less is more, especially when dealing with unexpected and incredibly energetic kittens.
