Chores: My Favourite and Least Favourite Tasks

Chores: My Favourite and Least Favourite Tasks

I don’t like doing any chores, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have a responsibility to do them. There are some tasks I enjoy, such as feeding my pets, while some others, like washing windows, are dreaded.

Feeding and Cleaning

I dislike cleaning the ducks' cage. However, I love feeding our three dogs, one of whom is an inside dog, and the other two are outside dogs. It’s a rewarding feeling to watch them enjoy their meals. Additionally, I enjoy bottle-feeding a month-old calf. These tasks bring me joy and a sense of fulfillment.

Enjoying Clean Houses

I enjoy doing chores at home because I like the feeling of having a clean and tidy house. Since I have a very clean home and I appreciate most of my chores, my least favorite task is washing windows. No matter how thoroughly I clean them, streaks and prints remain when the sun shines through at different times. However, I still make an effort to ensure they look as clean as possible.

Daily Chores and Weekly Duties

Some daily chores, such as dusting, vacuuming, and polishing, are manageable for me since I only perform them a couple of times a month. Laundry is a task I do 3-4 times a week. The task I least enjoy are the daily ones. I detest washing dishes by hand because my dishwasher is currently broken and I’m waiting for my husband to repair it. Cleaning the litter box is a necessary evil, but it is worth it because of my kitties.

Detestation for Cooking and Trash Removal

While making breakfast and lunch for myself and my husband is fine, dinner is my least favorite chore. I wish I could afford to have meals brought to me, allowing me to save time and effort. Picking up trash, especially in the winter, is another task I dislike. Grocery shopping is also a headache. I try to go early in the morning, between 6-6:30 a.m., to avoid crowds, get better parking, and quickly get back home to put everything away.

Disliking Dusting and the Struggle with Chores

When I was a child, dusting was my chore, and I continued to dislike it as an adult. I used to enjoy keeping my house clean but now that I’m disabled and in chronic pain, I struggle to perform even the simplest chores. I put off cleaning until the dust is two inches thick and only vacuum when I can’t see the rug. It’s a daily struggle, but I know that my home must remain clean and tidy.

Chores, whether I love them or hate them, need to be done. While some tasks bring me joy, others are simply a necessary evil. Whether it’s feeding our pets, cleaning our home, or doing the daily tasks, I have learned to persevere and complete them to the best of my ability.

Despite my dislike for many chores, I recognize the importance of maintaining a clean and tidy home. Each task, whether it’s dusting, washing windows, or cooking, contributes to making my home a pleasant place to live. Even though some tasks are challenging, they are all a part of life and something that needs to be done.
