Escaping the Shithole: My Journey from America to Europe and Beyond

My Decision to Leave the United States: An Unfavorable Comparison

The United States, often referred to as the land of the free, can sometimes feel more like a shithole to me. This perspective isn't just my opinion—my observations span over 30 countries I have visited. What stands out the most are the societal issues, racism, and a general lack of safety compared to European counterparts.

Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that American society is rife with problems that aren't found in many other parts of the world. A significant portion of the population is characterized by rudeness, racism, arrogance, loudness, ignorance, and unfortunately, obesity. These traits are prevalent, even among the more privileged segments of society in many American cities.

My Move to Europe: A Much Better Place

After visiting several European countries, the stark contrast became apparent. European societies are safer, more considerate, and, overall, much better. Whether in Poland or Denmark, you'll find a markedly different attitude and environment. People are more welcoming, less confrontational, and more laid-back. The levels of privacy, safety, and quality of life in Europe cannot be matched easily.

While I can't disclose the exact location of my residence, it was indeed worth every effort to move away from the United States. Traveling frequently was both tiring and inconvenient, given the need to rush through one rental property to check into another—a hassle that I could no longer tolerate.

Collateral Damage: A Family's Move to Australia

Another reason for my move is deeply personal and affects my family. My daughter, her husband, and our grandkids have relocated to Australia. This decision was not a choice for them but a necessary consequence of our immigration policies. My son-in-law, a college graduate and father of two American daughters, was forced to leave the country for five years because of our insane immigration policies.

Meanwhile, the influx of illegal immigrants into our country has been staggering. Seven million immigrants have crossed the border in the last four years, and there are no plans to deport them. This stark disparity further solidifies my decision to leave the land of my birth.

A Retirement Gift: Private Island in the Philippines

As a retirement present to my wife, I acquired a private island in the Philippine archipelago. This island, part of the 7,000 that make up the Philippines, is designed exclusively for my family and friends. Our primary goals were to secure our privacy, enjoy a tropical climate, and have a comfortable environment for hosting extended family gatherings.

The move to this private island marked the end of my frequent travels and the start of a new era where comfort and stability are priorities. The switch in our lives isn't just a geographical one, but a fundamental change in the quality of life we hope to enjoy for the rest of our days.

What motivated my move? The realization that the United States has become a failed state where its ideals and principles have been long gone. The tipping point came with the Fascistic 'Patriot' Act, the unjustified war against Iraq, increased corporate power, and the gaslighting of the public leading to the re-election of GW Bush.

In summary, my decision to leave the United States was driven by a combination of personal motivation, family considerations, and a deep-seated dissatisfaction with the direction the country has taken. The move to Europe and eventually a private island in the Philippines represents a new chapter in my life, far away from the shithole that is America.
