Reflections on Donald Trump’s Television Presence: A Disappointing Experience

When one thinks of Donald Trump's speaking appearances on television, the first thoughts often revolve around the desire to mute the screen.

The Evolution of My Opinion

Originally, the immediate reaction to hearing Trump speak on television was a wish to find the Mute button. There was a time when his voice seemed particularly jarring and disruptive, prompting the question of where one could turn off his broadcasts entirely. However, in light of recent events and revelations, this sentiment has only intensified. Now, the initial thought is not just about muting his voice for a moment, but rather silencing him permanently. Each word seems to add disdain, with the aspiration for the Mute button to not just silence him, but to effectively silence the memory of his voice altogether.

Assessing His Cognitive State

Somewhat controversially, some individuals and critics have begun to question Trump's mental health, suggesting a possible link to conditions such as Alzheimer's or another form of dementia. The perception of his speech and public behavior has shifted from merely being irritating to actively noting signs of cognitive decline and diminished mental acuity.

Education and Rhetoric

Images of a poorly educated individual, using hand gestures to enhance a meager vocabulary, come to mind when listening to Trump. His spoken word is often seen as a blend of poor education and an overreliance on physical posturing to make up for the lack of coherent thought.

The manner in which he speaks is described as obnoxious and, through the critique, an assault on the syntactical integrity of the English language. His speech is often labeled as “mangling American English syntax,” providing a stark contrast to the clarity and structure of formal English.

Character Attack and Messaging

His public appearances are not just criticized for linguistic and educational shortcomings, but also for the content of his messages. Trump's rhetoric is often seen as a caricature of itself, with a version of himself that has merged with the iconic character of Mr. Rogers to produce a bizarre hybrid. This version, however, is a negative inversion, with the message popping out in a manner that is seemingly both naively simple and negatively skewed towards marginalized groups. To paraphrase a common criticism: “Of course, all the blacks, hispanics, and other minorities should go live in other people's neighborhoods.”

Morality and Intellectual Capacity

The perception of Donald Trump in media and public discourse can be summed up by describing him as immature and intellectually challenged. His comments and public demeanor seem to reflect someone who is both underdeveloped and lacking in the crucial skills of empathy and moral reasoning. The idea of him being intellectual unable and xenophobic aligns with the notion of someone who is merely creating noise against the backdrop of a responsible and ethical discourse.

One cannot help but be reminded of the famous quote from his grandmother, my late Gran. "Self praise is no recommendation,”” she used to say, and this rings true when considering Trump's endless self-promotion and lack of substance in his discourse.

Refusal to Listen and Seeking Alternatives

Public sentiment towards Trump’s television appearances has reached a point of total rejection. The very idea of engaging with him through the medium of television is seen as a waste of time. The thought of a fat, low IQ narcissist lying outright is not a scenario that one would typically entertain. The only way some feel they can accept such behaviors is by engaging with someone else, such as an ex-spouse, suggesting that the connection to reality and decency is often found in unexpected places.
