Room Accommodation for Second-Year Students at VIT Vellore
Being a second-year student at VIT Vellore, you might be curious about the type of room you can secure based on your GPA. This article will provide detailed insight into the availability of different types of rooms, from non-AC to AC, depending on your CGPA and hostel preferences.
What Type of Room Can You Get in Second Year Based on Your GPA?
Students with a GPA of 8.3, like yourself, will most likely secure a Non-AC room. The type of room you can get will vary depending on your GPA and availability. It's not uncommon to get a six-bed AC or a single/two-bed AC room. As for Non-AC rooms, virtually everything is possible except a 4-bed or 2-bed room. The chances of getting a 2-bed AC or Non-AC room are lower, especially in the A block, where a higher CGPA is required to secure a 2-bed room.
If you have a close friend with a 9 or 9 CGPA, you might have an advantage as CGPA 9 holders get room allotment before other students. They can choose any room of their preference within the available blocks.
Impact of NC GPA Rank on Room Allocation
The final allocation of room types will largely depend on your NC GPA and your rank within the NCGPA list. If your branch topper has the highest CGPA, it will be challenging to secure a 2-bed room, as only 30 of these rooms are reserved for second-year students. Commonly, you may find yourself with a 6-bed AC or Non-AC room, especially in the A block. Lower CGPA students will face difficulty in getting a 4-bed AC room in the A block, but may still get a 4-bed AC room in other blocks.
The trend in the last few years shows that there is an increase in the allocation of 3-bed AC and Non-AC rooms. For the G3 group, the room availability greatly depends on your NCGPA and university ranking. The L K block is known for its spaciousness and excellent infrastructure, making it a popular choice among students. If your NCGPA falls between 10 and 9.77, you can get any room in any block. For those with NCGPAs between 9.6 and 9.45, 4-bed AC rooms might be available but not in the superior blocks like A, KL, D, etc. If your NCGPA is between 9.25 and 9.5, you can get 6-bed AC rooms, but in blocks A, K, L, D, F, G, E, C, and B. The single-bed rooms are less desirable and may take a long time to get filled.
Mess Preferences and Accommodation Details
The choice of block not only affects the room but also the mess. D block annex is widely considered the best, but the K L block mess is also good for the Single Mess Boys and Girls (SMBS) students. Blocks near subway will be a good option for MBGDN (Mechanical, Biomedical, and Civil Engineering) students. It is believed that B block is haunted, but it is a personal preference. B block is the farthest from any of the other blocks and is usually quieter. However, due to the introduction of 3-bed AC rooms, the B block is expected to fill up faster, similar to the 2-bed rooms.
From the past experience, the D block and K L block rooms fill up very fast as they are spacious and have the best infrastructure. The A and KL blocks are highly competitive, allocating 6-bed AC and 4-bed AC rooms based on the NCGPA. Students with lower CGPA may find it more challenging to secure a 4-bed AC room in the A and KL blocks but may get 6-bed AC rooms in other blocks like K, L, D, F, G, E, C, and B. For single-bed rooms, they are less desirable and tend to fill up very slowly. The A block, particularly the A block 2-bed rooms, have reserved 30 rooms for second-year students, making it even more competitive.
