Superior Skills: Where I Excel in a Diverse World
As a native Norwegian speaker, I rank among the top 0.07 percent in language proficiency, which speaks volumes about my linguistic abilities. It's a skill that defines me, but it's just one among the many skills I possess, like my expertise in classical trombone. This passage delves into the rare and exceptional traits I have in these domains, and how I've achieved exceptional results in comparison to my peers.
My Skills in the Norwegian Language
Standing as a native Norwegian speaker, I am easily in the top one percent in language proficiency. This isn't just a skill I have but a proficiency that places me among the few in the world. In a diverse and expansive world, everyone is likely in the top one percent of something, be it language, music, or any other field. Norwegian, being my native tongue, has been a part of my life since birth. My proficiency in the language is unparalleled, which is a nuanced aspect of my overall capabilities.
Captivating the World with Classical Trombone
Classical trombone performance is a field where I hold a unique position. Playing as a principal trombonist in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, one of the world's highest-paying and most prestigious full-time orchestral jobs, speaks to the depth of my musical expertise.
My journey in classical trombone began in high school when I participated in the Texas All-State Orchestra. This accomplishment alone placed me among the top 0.2 percent of all trombonists at the high school level. When considering the average number of trombone majors entering college, this number becomes even more astounding. Given that there are around 10000 trombonists, only 26 were chosen, representing a fraction of a percent.
To further contextualize my position, let's look at global numbers. In 2010, the population of the United States was approximately 309 million. Assuming a proportionate distribution, the number of high school trombonists who competed for All-State was around 123,600. Out of these, 300 pursued a degree in music performance, leading to a staggering 4 in every 100,000 people engaging in high school-level competition.
When it comes to job opportunities in the music field, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra auditions were competitive. Around 200 musicians were selected based on their resumes, and I was among the top 5, and even won first place in the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, I was a runner-up in the Presidents Own Marine Band in 2014 and won five national or international competitions between 2011 and 2014.
Understanding the Rarity of My Musical Expertise
The rarity of my musical expertise is evident. To provide a more concrete understanding of my position, let’s consider the global context. With approximately 20 times the population of the U.S., the global trombonist pool is vast. Given that many countries lack the infrastructure to train young musicians, a conservative estimate suggests that I am in the top 0.003 percent of classical trombonists worldwide. This means that only two or three trombonists out of a 100,000 could match my instrumental skills.
While auditions are inherently subjective, my exceptional results speak for themselves. My skill doesn't lie in arrogance but in the tangible results of years of dedicated practice and competition. My consistent sound quality, versatile technique, and stylistic range set me apart from my peers.
However, it's important to note that I am not the only player at my level. Many others excel in their own ways, and the music world is vast and diverse. Nonetheless, my consistent high level of performance is unquestionable, and I am certainly in the top 1 for classical trombone.
In conclusion, while the world is filled with diverse talents, in fields such as language proficiency and classical trombone performance, I stand out as one of the top contenders. This success is not just a reflection of my natural abilities but also the result of years of intensive training and dedication.
