The One Simple Thing I Can’t Do and Why It Matters
Life is full of challenges, and some of them might seem trivial at first glance. However, these challenges often serve as powerful reminders of our perseverance, self-awareness, and the importance of self-improvement. For me, the one simple thing I can’t do without significant mental and physical effort is open a can or a jar. It might seem like a trivial skill, but it’s a daily reminder that I must never give up.
The Motor Skills Gap
Learning to open a can or jar seems like a simple task that children pick up quickly. Yet, despite knowing how to do it, my muscle memory is just not there. This small inconvenience has a larger impact on my mental fortitude. Each day, when I can't open a can with one hand, it reinforces the idea that there are always things we struggle with. Learning this skill easily may take just 3 minutes, but I take pride in understanding that some tasks require dedication and practice.
Overcoming Physical and Mental Challenges
Despite the challenges, life continually presents opportunities to grow and improve. I have survived two strokes in one night and am undergoing therapy to regain my motor skills. Each small step forward, no matter how minimal, is a victory. This journey has taught me that never give up is not just a slogan but a way of life. The phrase “NEVER GIVE UP” and “NEVER EVER GIVE UP. FIGHT THE BASTARDS THAT STAND IN YOUR WAY!” are not just motivational quotes but hard-learned principles.
Struggles in Daily Life
There are many things I can't do, both physical and mental. For instance, fly by my own will—an impossible task for humans. Similarly, I can't breath underwater without scuba gears or rise the dead or put down the undead. Some things I can't do because of my physical limitations, while others are mere fantasy.
It's also worth noting the challenge of getting motivated to go to work. Although I enjoy my job, I often feel like I'm sandbagging and not in the right place at the right time. Between my other jobs and daily hobbies, finding time for self-evaluation proves difficult. However, self-reflection is crucial for personal growth, and I believe it's important to re-evaluate one's life periodically.
Belief and Faith
Believing in a god, particularly the Christian God, often leads to controversial debates. I find it challenging to understand how people find answers in faith, especially when faced with difficult questions. Personally, I find it difficult to engage in such discussions without feeling frustrated.
Cellular Phones: A Double-Edged Sword
Cellular phones are a ubiquitous part of modern life, but they can be a necessary evil. While many people find them indispensable, I detest them. They burden me with constant notifications and interruptions. Currently, I am considering switching to a home landline to reduce this dependency.
Concentration and Personal Growth
Concentration is another area where I desire to improve. While I struggle to understand complex subjects, I can excel if I concentrate on a task. Building concentration power is an ongoing effort for me, essential for success in various aspects of life.
Public Personalities and Privacy
Another aspect I find challenging is public sharing on social media. While it's common for people to share their personal lives, I find it uncomfortable. I believe in maintaining a certain level of privacy, believing that my life is my own and should not be showcased to unknowns. It's important to strike a balance between sharing and maintaining your privacy.
Conclusion
Life is a journey of challenges and personal struggles. The simple task of opening a can or jar is a daily reminder to never give up. Each challenge we face is an opportunity to grow, improve, and become a stronger individual. Whether it's physical skills, mental fortitude, or personal beliefs, embracing these challenges can lead to profound growth and success.
