The Pros and Cons of Urban and Rural Life: My Personal Experience
Living in a particular place brings both joy and frustration. In this article, I will share my personal opinions and experiences about the city or place I currently reside and the rural community where I used to live. I will discuss what I like and dislike about each place, providing a balanced view for readers to consider when deciding where to live.
Living in a Small Town
Currently, I reside in a small, quiet town known for its rural charm. However, this town is not without its downsides. Speaking candidly, there is not much I ‘like’ about living here. It is a small town in a region sometimes referred to pejoratively as a 'redneck shithole.' I find that the town's lack of natural disasters, such as hurricanes or tornadoes, is one of the few positive aspects. Besides that, I appreciate the quietness and the comfort of being surrounded by my family. However, these positives do not outweigh the negatives.
Dislikes in the Rural Community
The list of things I don't like is quite long. For one, there is an incessant stream of country music, which drives me to distraction. I also find tractors, pickup trucks, and semi-trucks to be bothersome. Additionally, I strongly dislike the presence of Confederate flags, homophobia, racism, and the overall redneck culture here. Lastly, the public's constant criticism and jibes towards Donald Trump add to my dissatisfaction.
Life in Mumbai/Navi Mumbai
Although I have a deep appreciation for where I currently live, my early years were spent in a vibrant city named Mumbai/Navi Mumbai. My feelings towards this city are mixed. I love the city at night, but during the day, the traffic and pollution are unbearable. Nightlife in Mumbai is unparalleled, providing a safe environment for people from all walks of life to enjoy. This city is ideal for night owls or anyone with a talent in a particular area. However, the cost of living is quite high, especially when compared to other cities. On the positive side, traveling is quite cheap, and the city never sleeps, offering endless options for entertainment and dining.
Living in DreamCity
While I appreciate the vibrant nightlife and safety, there are negatives to consider. One major issue is the high rent, which can be a burden for many residents. However, the city’s respect for talents and welcoming environment provide a unique appeal. Ordinarily, I prefer a quieter living environment, which is why I am considering moving to the countryside. The air is cleaner and fresher, and the peacefulness of living in a rural area is incredibly appealing.
Challenges of Housing in My City
Moving from a rural to an urban environment brought about significant challenges. One of the most pressing issues is the rapidly rising cost of housing. In the past three years alone, rental prices have skyrocketed. Additionally, the city is demolishing old apartment complexes to make way for new ones, often avoiding the repair of the existing buildings. This has created a housing crisis, with long waiting lists for affordable apartments. Furthermore, some families have resorted to living in their cars at Walmart parking lots at night, which is heartbreaking.
The Mayor's Response
The city's mayor has not been proactive in addressing these issues. She is more focused on attracting new businesses than addressing the growing homeless problem. As a result, she has closed down a few homeless centers. This attitude is disheartening and does not reflect the needs of the community.
Transition to Rural Living
I was born and raised in a large, loud, and socially restrictive southern city, but I now live in a rural community on 6 acres of land. Here, I find peace, quiet, and a sense of belonging. My neighbors are friendly, and the air is sweet and fresh. Given these experiences, I am considering moving to a more peaceful rural environment.
Conclusion
My personal experience represents a combination of both urban and rural life. While I appreciate the positives of each, I seek a balance between safety, affordability, and a peaceful living environment. Pros and cons vary widely based on personal preferences and priorities, making each place unique and inviting.
